On Tuesday 21st August Parkfield Youth Fc was chosen by the FA to provide an Coach and five boys from the club to play a team of five from Stuttgart in Germany who were being flown over on the eve of the senior teams England V Germany match at Wembley Stadium. The day proved to very good with the boys being given full England kit and got to meet 1966 hatrick hero Sir Geoff Hurst and representing the German squad was the goalkeeper Sir Geoff beat 3 times in the world cup final, Hans Tilkowski. The Parkfield Squad was made up of 3 U11 boys and two U8's the morning was spent with coaching sessions from both squads. |
After the two teams met with the press and had words of wisdom from the two world cup legends it was down to the serious stuff the match, With Sky sports news and BBC news cameras filming the boys were eager to show that Parkfield has a lot to offer grass roots football in our community. The game was a very good example of how Parkfield like to play the ball around, and on the touchline Sir Geoff Hurst was heard to say "Their very good for their age" The England boy's won 7 -2 and really enjoyed the whole experience. It was a pity the senior team couldn't quite repeat the boys win the next night but hey at least they can say that they represented England and Sir Geoff Hurst managed them to a win over Germany. A.
